Received: Day 121 (Isa's Heartgame)
The Thing: ( with names mysteriously obscured ) Yuyuko summons Eirin to the Netherworld for some nefarious purpose. She tries to get her to drink tea, but Eirin realizes it's actually poison, to which Yuyuko admits that her goal was trying to get her to come be her personal doctor. It's hard to tell if she's joking or not, being that, well...she announced the name of the poison beforehand. Either way, she and Youmu are suffering from the side effects of looking too closely at the full moon, Youmu in particular starting to lose her mind. Eirin begins to treat her, but offhandedly mentions that she happens to be immortal, startling Yuyuko. She claims that people who become immortal through drinking the Hourai Elixir are her natural enemies, because "her powers don't work on them" and "if no one dies, the Netherworld won't be lively."

Shard 03
Received: Day 123 (Eden's game)
The Thing: ( with names mysteriously obscured ) A few days after the events of her previous shard. Youmu informs Yuyuko that Kaguya has challenged them to a "trial of guts." Her instinct that something would happen soon was correct after all! Youmu a bit reluctant, they head out into the bamboo forest at midnight. A hakutaku that they've seen before engages them in combat, but the two have no idea what she's talking about. They end up running into a strange girl, Mokou, who stuns Yuyuko into silence. She attempts to use her "death powers" on her, but to her shock, they don't work. She warns Youmu not to get close to her, but this being Yuyuko she makes a bunch of tasteless comments about eating Mokou. This prompts an attack and a very long, very hard battle. Ultimately, Yuyuko and Youmu emerge victorious, only to realize that Kaguya tricked them and wanted them to assassinate Mokou from the very beginning. Following this is more gross jokes about eating her guts. Apparently, this is how one can become immortal like her.

Received: Day 128 (Haunt's traumagame)
The Thing: Headcanon to fill in the gaps (pun not intended)! A very much alive Yuyuko does not venture outside of her family's estate very often. She is reclusive and incredibly lonely, but today, she wants to see the flowers around town bloom. She gathers up her courage and heads into town, head held down and a parasol obscuring her face--and yet, someone still recognizes her. A woman hops out of a tear in the atmosphere, says it's a pleasure to finally make her acquaintance, and...the two hit it off immediately. Soon, she visits again. And again, and again, and again. Even when Yuyuko tells her she's better off left alone, the woman visits her and treats her warmly. For the first time in a very, very long time, Yuyuko doesn't feel quite so alone.

Shard 05
Received: Day 131 (Yaksini's game)
The Thing: ( with names mysteriously obscured ) Takes place the night before Shard 02. Yuyuko and Youmu continue to fly through the Bamboo Forest of the Lost in search of some sort of culprit. To find them, they've 'stopped the nighttime' somehow. A witch, Marisa, confronts them about the state of the fake moon and despite their protests, attacks. She flees halfway through the fight until they catch up to her again and she proclaims that "because there's two of you, so I get two shots!" Ghost duo eventually defeats her for good, and while Youmu says it was a waste of time, Yuyuko spies a mansion in the distance, saying everything was going just as planned.

Received: Day 134 (Songbird's game)
The Thing: Headcanon to fill in the gaps! Continuing the adventures of alive!Yuyuko. During her long periods of isolation, Yuyuko has gotten used to not seeing her father very often, as he is usually travelling for his job. Her mother is not in the picture--probably dead, though it's not 100% certain. One day, an attendant nervously approaches her with a battered message from a courier.
"My lady, Lord Saigyou has passed away."
She doesn't know what to feel. Her heart may turn to ice itself with the contained grief that she'd been struggling to hold back for a very, very long time now. If he was gone, then who would she have? Her father was so kind, so loving, despite everything that had happened. She can do nothing but sit in a ball in her room, alternating between crying her eyes out and feeling nothing at all. There are no visitors. The birds outside of her window do not chirp.
When she manages to gather herself up again, it feels like years have passed. She reads the rest of the missive--her father had known he was dying, and so chose to take his eternal rest beneath the most beautiful cherry blossom tree he could find. He passed away peacefully, but in the few weeks it took for the letter to arrive, even the people in her home town started speaking of the tree's beauty. It has an almost otherworldly quality to it.
She cannot bring herself to attend her father's funeral--for fear of something, something what? But she has to be strong. Now that her father has passed away, she must assume the position of family head.

Shard 07
Received: Day 140 (Nyssa's traumagame)
The Thing: ( with names mysteriously obscured ) Setting change! Instead of the rustic setting from Yuyuko's old shards, everything is now spartan and stark white with filing cabinets and cardboard boxes strewn about. IT SEEMS THAT YOUMU HAS DIED. FOR REAL. Not entirely sure how or why this happened, but it's A Thing. In true "sigpos disguised as a signeg" Yuyuko chooses to mask her grief by stuffing food into her face and being abnormally cheery/helpful. Later on, Maya aka Eveningstar from Epona makes a surprise appearance and eats all of the takoyaki Yuyuko made. Amazing, the tables have turned. But in all seriousness, Maya ends up channeling Youmu's spirit from....wherever the Beyond is in this weird dimension, and while it's initially a heartbreaking reunion, it lifts Yuyuko's mood significantly to know Youmu is sort of alright.

Shard 10
Received: Day 146 (Lilith's contagion game)
The Thing: ( with names mysteriously obscured ) It's springtime at last, a full seven years after some mysterious incident perpetuated by Yuyuko herself. Beings suggested to be divine spirits are gathering at various locations in Gensokyo, most prominently the Myouren Temple and its cemetery, a faction of Buddhist youkai who've recently settled down.
Things start to get a little worrisome when these divine spirits begin forming in the bodies of existing ghosts and then disappearing--Youmu and (presumably) Yuyuko included. Reimu, Marisa, Sanae, and Youmu all head out to investigate, most of them immediately suspecting Yuyuko for it being the anniversary of the Spring Incident and spirits being directly in her domain. However, it's actually not her meddling for once. She knows exactly what's going on, though, and makes each of the girls duel her first to get information out of her, then not-so-subtly pointing them in the direction of the Myouren Temple cemetery. Her comment in Youmu's scenario is the most telling:
"I doubt that some troublesome individual is about to make a return, or that there's any secrets or anything in, say, the cemetery behind the temple..."
Indeed, someone troublesome was returning--the Taoist saint Toyosatomimi no Miko, whose mausoleum was located directly underneath the Myouren Temple. How coincidental. For the past 1400 years, she'd been comatose after a shifty attempt at immortality, and now she was waking up. The spirits were, in fact, not divine spirits at all, but a low-class subspecies referred to as greedy spirits, or vulgar spirits, vengeful souls born from one's desires. Due to Miko's abilities to hear the desires of humans, the vulgar spirits flocked to her to witness her resurrection.
Yuyuko is not present for the entire fight, but she manages to find out what went down, as per usual.

Shard 11
Received: Day 155 (The Bone Witch's parenting game)
The Thing: ( with names mysteriously obscured, headcanon to fill in the gaps ) This one is a bit longer, spread out over a small number of years. Yuyuko remembers something faint, almost foggy--but only because she was a small child at the time, as foggy as early childhood memories often are. Her father watches in amazement. There are phantoms littering the estate garden, they come here to see her, to flock around her. Spirits are inherently drawn to her, they always have been, since the day she was born. Her father claps as she marionettes the spirits around effortlessly; they don't seem to mind. It is fun. This power is fun.
A few years older, perhaps, wiggling in her seat as someone trims her hair and ties it up, trying to pin it at the back of her head. She fusses, she wants to leave--she has things to do, things that are more fun than sitting still like this. The person fiddling with her hair, a family attendant, has no patience for belligerent children, though, and ignores her. Yuyuko seems to become more and more frustrated, eventually standing up and trying to leave the room, but not before throwing a tantrum and shouting angrily at the attendant...who promptly drops to the floor, unmoving. Silence.
As much as Yuyuko tries to wake her, shaking her shoulders and screaming, she does not stir. Her father hears the commotion, bursting into the room. It is freezing cold; she can see her breath before her, like when too many phantoms crowd into a small space. The attendant has died, spontaneously, she can gather that. What happened? Did she do something? She feels as if she is gripping something in her hands, but there is nothing there.
It was an accident. The attendant, she must have been ill. So many people were ill, these days. It was nothing for her to worry about, she shouldn't blame herself. Except, it happens again. And again. And she is always at the center of it, someone in her household dropping dead in the blink of an eye. Yuyuko pieces it together: if she can control ghosts, why can't she make them?

Shard 12
Received: Day 156 (Yuu's Heartgame)
The Thing: ( with some names mysteriously obscured, headcanon to fill in the gaps ) Yuyuko has only been dead for around 50 years now. For a while, she merely wandered aimlessly around Gensokyo in the company of her darling youkai friend, seen before. However, she's come into contact with representatives from the Ministry of Right and Wrong a few times by now, ones who have noticed her absurdly powerful spirit control powers.
"You're the old head of the Saigyouji family, aren't you?"
"The who, now?"
(It seems she doesn't remember anything from when she was alive, although Yukari insists they're still friends. Hmm.)
In particular, one Yama named Eiki Shiki, is in charge of Gensokyo's souls. After some lengthy discussions, Eiki begins to keep an eye on her and--well, it would be convenient if this were a nice, short process, but it's not. There's a metric ton of paperwork and trial periods involved, spanning over another good 25 years. Ultimately it proves beneficial, though, as Yuyuko is formally appointed as the head of the Netherworld, for both her spirit skills and her kind, fair nature.

Shard 13
Received: Day 157 (Units' game)
The Thing: ( with some names mysteriously obscured, headcanon to fill in the gaps ) Throughout the 700 years of Yuyuko ruling over the Netherworld, she became acquainted with the Konpaku family, the resident gardeners. They're half-human and half-phantom oddly enough, but a reliable bunch, and in particular she grows fond of one of their younger members, a man named Youki. The circumstances are fuzzy, but Youki eventually takes up the helm of being Yuyuko's bodyguard.
It's a stable position for another 200 years, and Youki eventually has a daughter--Youmu. However, he's getting older as the years pass. Half-phantoms have longer lifespans than humans, but they're far from immortal; at 300, his age is beginning to show. To Yuyuko's disappointment, he leaves her little to no details of his whereabouts when, one day, he suddenly vanishes from the Netherworld. Youmu, technically an adult by then, is devastated at her father's disappearance, but becomes Yuyuko's bodyguard in his place.

Shard 14
Received: Day 163 (Iota's liar game)
The Thing: ( with some names mysteriously obscured ) The setting is once again a spartan white space with cardboard boxes and filing cabinets. The cat ruling over this domain has been attacked by the evil spirit possessing a resident, a little dog named Ren. The mechanics of these cases are explained. The scenario corresponds to the state of the bodies of the victims, and they all must assign proper to blame to the story counterparts among them.
Ritsu and Malik suggest ghosts, which Yuyuko finds amusing for obvious reasons. Although ultimately Asami was Ema's counterpart rather than her own, the details of her case hit way too close to home, namely the situation with her father and her ultimate suicide. With this unfortunate reliving of circumstances, Yuyuko has to exit the trial room for a good half hour before she can compose herself again. She returns later and is able to summarize the case in time for the counterparts to step forward and unlock their memory cabinets.
Someone Yuyuko had been on friendly terms with, a paranormalist named Naho Saenoki, turns out to have been the counterpart the guilty party in the story, reliving the outcome of her poor choices and eventual death. She hadn't known Naho was dead, but evidently she was subject to a very, very bad haunting and possession, the likes of which even Yuyuko hadn't seen before.
The cat proceeds to announce that any spirit they don't manage to exorcise will permanently take over its host, meaning whoever had thrown Youmu under the bus in the previous case is now running amok in someone's body. This means, unfortunately, Naho either has to die or be swiftly eradicated of her guilt. Yuyuko is firmly in the "oh like hell you're going to fucking kill her" camp and gets in between Kouha, their supposed executioner, and Naho, only to start a huge fight. Athena and Maya (again Eveningstar of Epona) try to rid Naho of her guilt, but the effort is fruitless as Naho is eventually consumed by the spirit possessing her. Shadow!Naho attempts to fight and breaks Kouha's wrist, kickstarting a fight--though Kouha emerges victorious, killing her easily with his....weird purple fairy magical girl transformation. Yuyuko attempts to get some information out of the spirit, but it can only drop a few details before the aforementioned fight.
As it turns out, the true guilty party of Youmu's case was Austria, who'd been slowly succumbing to possession throughout the week. A party of her, Ty Lee, and Mai disperse to kill Austria's body later on.

Received: Day 168 (Kynigos's game)
The Thing: ( with names obscured ) THE SETTING CHANGES YET AGAIN to an elegant Western mansion. At 7AM, Yuyuko is woken up by a loud clock chiming. She knows this must mean someone else has died and their body was found. However, she is one damn lazy ghost and kind of disgruntled, so she (and many of the others) don't want to go outside to check for said body. Apparently Eridan "Douchepajamas" Ampora is dead, kickstarting another wild search for clues. Yuyuko excuses herself this time, sudden corpse not even managing to totally eclipse her need for breakfast.

At the very start of their journey, they get lost, and summarily interrupted by a passing firefly youkai named Wriggle Nightbug. Youmu tries to ask for directions, but this goes about as well as you'd expect, and ends in a fight because this is Gensokyo.

The Thing: Yuyuko is woken up at ass o'clock aka 2am by a determined-looking maid, Sakuya. Due to the meddling of herself and Youmu in the past, Sakuya has reason to believe they're behind the latest "incident"--nonstop parties and feasts that no one seems to have any compulsive control over.
Yuyuko's a little miffed that Sakuya woke her up for a stupid reason, as she actually didn't have anything to do with it this time. Only after they fight and Sakuya wins does she concede Yuyuko's involvement was nil. With a huff, Yuyuko goes back to sleep.

There are no familiar faces, and she fails to recognize Wriggle or any of the people from her Blank State shards, for some reason. She finds most of her powers dampened or disabled entirely, much to her distress, and 29 other people just as confused as she is.
Not before long, their charming hostess reveals herself and explains the situation--everyone is on a televised murder mystery game show. The murders are real, no one can escape, and it's functionally every man for himself. Naturally, everyone protests, but no loopholes can be found at the moment.

The Thing: ( with some names obscured ) Moon Incident adventure part 4. After piledriving a poor sparrow, Yuyuko and Youmu happen upon the Human Village. Or, where the village would be, but instead is a patch of uninhabited wilderness "guarded" by a strange-looking lady
with a bento box on her head.Keine rebuffs their explanation of being lost, branding them as dangerous ghosts here to attack the village. Yuyuko and Youmu bicker for a bit while Keine awkwardly stands there. She vows to protect the village and "eat their history," just like she did with the village in order to shield it. After a fight, the two emerge victorious. It becomes apparent to Yuyuko that Keine is a half-beast herself, sort of like Youmu. It is then that Yuyuko is "reminded" of their mission restore the moon, and they set off once more.

Received: Day 190 (Soiree's rubix cube game)
The Thing: ( with names mysteriously obscured ) It's Week 1 at Murdercastle and trust has been broken. The victim is Kouha Ren and against her better judgement, Yuyuko examines his body up close only to find stab wounds.
Her knowledge of toxins comes in handy, in the process of determining if Kouha was drugged with chloroform, but the mystery quickly takes a turn for the confusing. At the end of the first day, most everyone is irritable and upset, and the second day doesn't fare any better. The culprit, somehow, managed to get access to the servants quarters, a restricted wing of the building.
Determining that none of the listed suspects could have done this, they push to put Felicia, the host, onto the vote. And tbh she's so fucking annoying no one really bats an eye when she is. In a moment of unity, everyone votes to execute Felicia instead, and she is summarily taken out in a really weird parody of teen supernatural movies. ????
However, this all leaves them without a host, a problem to be solved in the coming days.

The Thing: ( with names mysteriously obscured ) WEEK 2 OF MURDERCASTLE, TIME TO INVESTIGATE THE DOUCHE'S DEATH. After some room searches, Yuyuko volunteers to go be a menace to society and test out the velocity of throwing a trident off the third floor balcony. Totally relevant to the case. She heads off with Maya and Bakura in tow, ferrying them through the air. The experiment ends up confirming that it had to have been purposefully thrown down, supposedly clearing Feferi of suspicion
Following is a potato sack relay race to determine the strength of the culprit, which Yuyuko feels scandalized by. Don't waste all the potatoes.

Received: Day 193 (Caretaker's traumagame)
The Thing: ( with names mysteriously obscured ) A continuation of her previous shard, the second day of the Week 2 Trial.
It becomes pretty quickly apparent that they've all become a little lost, once more. There's no definitive evidence, and a few small mysteries remain unsolved. Although he doesn't seem terribly suspicious by himself, a majority votes for Ian Gallagher on the basis of "not voting for anyone means death." They fail, and ultimately Ian is scapegoated by the real culprit--who goes free, and opts not to retire from the game. On top of it, Aoi Kurashiki dies mysteriously in the voting room, disappearing for a rules infraction. Ian's death, a hanging, rattles Yuyuko and sends her into mild panic, for obvious reasons.
This all, understandably, shakes morale, and literally everyone feels down after this. Although Yuyuko promises to organize Ian's funeral like she did for Kouha, she stops before leaving to talk to Mei Misaki, one of her wing neighbors. Mei has virtually given up all hope, and trying to shake her out of her stupor, the two get into an argument. Yuyuko does her best to reassure Mei, but she strikes a nerve with her parting statement, and two leave on tense terms.

Patchouli then explains that Yuyuko is one of the few people she can think of who are old and experienced enough to know the truth behind the gathering incident...which Yuyuko takes solely as a jab at her age.
Following up with a comment about Yuyuko's supposed weakness to fire due to her species, there is of course a fight. Despite her loss, Yuyuko continues to be cryptic and mostly unhelpful, pointing Patchouli to Yukari in fewer words. Once more, she tries to go back to sleep.

The Thing: THE SCARLET DEVIL MANSION CREW HARASSES YUYUKO AND CONTINUES TO CALL HER OLD, A SAGA IN THREE PARTS.
In the final installment of this thrilling trilogy, Yuyuko is accosted at 4AM by a tiny vampire. She proceeds to call her an old lady and demand that the feast tomorrow be left up to her, because her ego is bigger than Yuyuko's house. Yuyuko is doubtful and more GHOST RACISM is exchanged before surprise surprise, a fight.
Begrudgingly, Yuyuko agrees after a loss on her part, but ends the conversation with a reminder:
Ah, haven't you realized? I don't care how anyone behaves...as long as it's fun.

The Thing: Following the skirmish with Marisa, Yuyuko and Youmu finally locate the source of the fake moon--an old mansion hidden deep in the Bamboo Forest of the Lost, Eientei. It's filled with rabbits, and their "boss" seems to be one in particular, Reisen Udongein Inaba.
The two confront Reisen, who confirms that the fake moon is due to an "Earth-sealing spell." Eirin sees the conflict and interrupts, noting that it's for the sake of protecting Reisen and "the princess." She doesn't take the two as actual threats, however, and leaves Reisen to get rid of them. Youmu quietly notes that Eirin seems pretty similar to Yuyuko, though, with regards to her demeanor and treatment of Reisen to herself.
Yuyuko and Youmu, predictably, bicker a bit before Reisen gets irritated and yells at them for ignoring her. Although the two emerge from the fight victorious, Reisen's powers have made Youmu's human half ill. Yuyuko suggests that they find a place to go rest...inside that conveniently unlocked door behind Reisen, the one that she hadn't secured. Youmu insists that she's fine, however, and Yuyuko remarks that behind that door lies the final conflict, the mastermind behind the incident.

The Thing: After the unfortunate death of Someone Who Is Not Youmu, Mei calls Yuyuko to speak with her. She's a bit wary, being in murdercastle and all, but as it turns out, all Mei wants to do is apologize for their argument the week before. As it turns out, Mei has experienced copious amounts of death in her life pre-murdercastle, and it all hit her particularly hard.
After some inquiring, Mei tells Yuyuko the circumstances of her life at home, a very strong and very deadly curse that killed off her sister and most of her classmates. This also explains Mei's strange power, the ability to see an aura around the dying and deceased via her false eye.
